Type Locality and Naming

The type section is in Suoweiling Hill east of Deqing City, Guangdong. The Suoweiling Gr was named by Guangdong Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1964, and was published by Central-South Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1974).

Synonym: (缩尾岭群)


Lithology and Thickness

The group is divided into two parts. Lower part is represented by coarse quartz sandstone and sandy conglomerate, with a massive conglomerate and sandstone intercalated with conglomerate lenses at the base. Upper part is composed of massive fine-grained quartz sandstone intercalated with thick-bedded sandy shale and conglomerate. The Suoweiling Gr is 50-1895 m thick.

Fossils

The sandstone in the upper part yields trilobites Illaenus siensis, Synhomalonatus birmanica, brachiopods Orthis carausis, O. calligramma intercalave, O. calligrammahupehensis, Metorthis delicata, Martella cf. ichangensis and gastropods.
